Galatians — Chapter 1

There Is No Other Gospel

"But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed."

— Gal 1:8

Galatians is the Magna Carta of Christian liberty. Written ~48-49 A.D. (Paul’s earliest letter), it is the most passionate defense of the Gospel of grace against Judaizing legalism.

🔥 The Defense of the Gospel (1:6-10)

Gal 1:6-9
"I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel... But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed."
The most abrupt opening of all Paul’s letters—without thanksgiving. The urgency is extreme: the Galatians are abandoning the Gospel. The double anathema (curse) on anyone who preaches another gospel—including Paul himself or an angel—demonstrates that the Gospel is non-negotiable.

📖 The Gospel Received by Revelation (1:11-24)

Gal 1:11-12
"For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man's gospel. For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ."
Paul defends the divine origin of his Gospel—not received from other apostles, but by direct revelation from Christ. His independent conversion and calling confirm his apostolic authority.
