Hebrews — Chapter 3

Jesus Superior to Moses

"For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as He who built the house has more honor than the house itself."

— Heb 3:3

Hebrews 3 compares Jesus to Moses — the greatest hero of Judaism — and demonstrates the superiority of Christ. The second warning: against unbelief and the hardening of the heart.

👑 Jesus Superior to Moses (3:1-6)

Heb 3:5-6
"Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that were to be spoken later, but Christ is faithful over God’s house as a son. And we are His house, if indeed we hold fast our confidence and our boasting in our hope."
The comparison: Moses was faithful as a servant (therapon) in God’s house; Christ is faithful as Son (huios) over the house. The servant testifies to what is to come; the Son is the One promised. The Church is Christ’s 'house' — but only if we persevere.

⚠️ Second Warning: Do Not Harden Your Heart (3:7-19)

Heb 3:12-14
"Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called ‘Today,’ that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin."
The danger of progressive hardening: sin deceives, the heart hardens, unbelief grows. The antidote: daily mutual exhortation. The Christian community is the environment for perseverance — spiritual individualism is vulnerable to hardening.
